Vintage Bike Insurance Take a bike from Los Angeles to Germany by plane.? I moved to Los Angeles in July and I moved to Germany in June 2010. In LA, I do not have enough money to buy a car (gas money, insurance, etc.) So I bought a bike. This bike is more vintage so I want to take it to Europe next summer. All airlines are sketchy at best for the bikes. Most airlines also charge $ 60-100 to the country to ship a bike box because of the larger size. it might be more to Europe. Now, if you tell them that this is anything other than cycling, they will not charge you. the key is not to mention it's a bike. What kind of bike is it? Is it even worth taking it? What do you mean by vintage? Is it really worth anything vintage or do you mean old. If you are worried about damage then I FedEx or UPS, and not to worry, but it is not even safe from damage. It is also expensive to ship a box of this size overseas. for an airline you have to call everyone. simplest is to wrap it and you take with you on the plan as lugage bulk. As I did with a rocking chair when I moved to Germany last year. Depends on the airline that I flew Continental. Check online for airline regulations or simply give them a call you used to be able to buy "bike boxes" specifically for the purpose ... you pull the handle ... but I can tell you for a $ 225 bike, it will cost you a lot. A few years ago it was $ 200, and I think it has increased since then. If your having problems with the airlines, there is always the possibility, you can send more, as he tells you.
