Roadrunner Towing

Roadrunner TowingWhat size crew cab should I expect to tow a 5th wheel?

the 5th wheel we want is a Sun Valley Inc., roadrunner F240. It is 7.5 feet wide and 24 feet long. It has an axle weight of 4305, a weight of 685 pin and a load capacity of 1695 pounds. we want to get a cab (4 door) is not an extended cab truck. Sun Valley Inc. said an S-10 or Dakota will do but I think I need at least 1500/150. this truck would you suggest?

If you plan to do any heavy towing you need to buy a ton 3 / 4 or 1 ton. The reason is not only the weight of towing the trailer, but the vehicle's braking power. Brakes on a half-ton are much smaller than those of a larger vehicle.

Another issue to consider is wind resistance of towed vehicle if you drive an S-10 wind will whip that 24 'trailer around like a kite. The S-10 is not heavy enough to compensate.

If you must take one ton 1 / 2 then, Chevy requires great towing capacity really their newest trucks. Toyota claims a towing capacity of their incredible newest trucks.

A lot to do with where you are towing, lots of hills you need power to get up and get off the brakes. Lots of wind you need weight to maintain stability. ground level flat, you can just far fewer trucks.

The diesels are much more powerful than the gas and get better fuel economy. They cost a bit more but if you plan to run many miles, it is not uncommon to see 300-600,000 on a diesel.

If you plan to pull the thing two weekends per year at 40 miles you may not need this truck much either.

Good luck.

1500 will do,,,, 2500 will be the best

you need somthing bigger than S-10 and a 1500 you should do, but the look of the 3500 are better.

While most 1 / 2 ton trucks haul from 6000 to 8000 GVW, but can not stop this. In addition, 1 / 2 ton rear gear, rear axles 342 which are higher than intended, or 373 rear, 410 gears that are best for pulling in a 1 ton truck. What rear axle ratio of the truck you a. Get, 373 or 410 gears for towing your trailer size.
Best of all, is a dual wheel 1 ton diesel with 8 ft bed, 373 rear axles or better.
DRW stop straight as an arrow with no fish-tailing of discs and brake important for long wear and reliability. Go test a doubling. You feel safer driving in it with excellent braking have Dually.
