1977 National Women's Conference Plan of Action for success? The Plan of Action adopted at the National Conference of 1977 women featured 26 resolutions, or plates, on the following topics:
For a breakdown by subject matter to what extent were each of these?
Arts and Humanities: Women should have equal opportunities in federal government jobs and equal access to arts grants.
Battered women: A national clearinghouse should be established to support local organizations to help battered women and working to prevent domestic violence.
Business: More government contracts for businesses owned by women, who had less than one per cent in 1977.
Child abuse: More prevention, treatment and protection services.
Childcare: Beware of low cost and high quality.
Credit: the Equal Credit Opportunity Act must be applied to ensure that women no longer private credit on the basis of sex.
Women with Disabilities: Equal access to education, training, employment and custody of children.
Education: More women in leadership positions and in textbooks. Title IX should be enforced.
elected and appointed members: More representation of women.
Employment: job opportunities and less discrimination.
Equal Rights Amendment: The ERA must be ratified.
Health: Health insurance benefits should include family planning and other concerns affecting women.
Homemakers: must be covered by social security and greater economic security, particularly in cases of divorce or death of a spouse.
Insurance: To eliminate practices that deny women coverage on the basis of sex.
International affairs: Increase the number of women in the departments of state and defense, women using the developing countries and promote nuclear disarmament.
Media: More women in jobs in the media, especially in leadership positions.
Minority women: Eliminate discrimination, support affirmative action, to ensure tribal rights and prevent the expulsion of mothers of children born in America.
Offenders: Improving health and education services and vocational training.
Older women: helps elderly women to live with dignity.
Rape: Broaden the definition of rape to include married men who abuse their wives and reduce the legal charges on the victims.
Reproductive Freedom: Support Roe v. Wade, promote family planning and allow payment of Medicaid for abortion.
Rural women: creating a policy for rural education and expand federal property rights for women farmers.
Sexual preference: Implement legislation to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and to repeal laws restricting private sexual behavior between consenting adults.
Statistics: Federal agencies should collect and analyze data in order to assess the impact on women.
Women, welfare and poverty: improving social security and pensions, increase the minimum wage, provide child care and focus on the well-being and poverty, issues of women's major.
Standing Conference Committee: Create a committee to follow up the recommendations and take steps to convene a second national conference of women.
Some of them have been reached. Discrimination in lending has almost disappeared, the federal government made a lot of gender analysis in office, there are laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, and Title IX is generally applied.
But many things have not occurred.
ERA, has not been adopted.
-There are many health plans that cover Viagra (!), But not birth control. This is frankly ridiculous, because the insurance costs for delivery of a fortune, but companies know they can force women to pay for it.
-Women pay more for health insurance.
Childcare is very exp.
