Some questions about auto insurance in Maryland for a minor.? I am a young man of 16 years residing in Maryland. Me will have my license soon and I had troubles working on a contract of insurance with my parents. My parents want me to have full coverage and I pay about 2400 per year. I would prefer that the state minimum and just buy my own car.
Now, since I am a minor, can I get my own policy with an insurance company car?
And if I sign my real father with me on a car, the title may still be in my name and I can drive in Maryland and Maryland get tags?
If you think there's anything else you think I should know, please share the information with me.
I'm not too sure of Maryland, but what counts is usually your name is on the policy of your father.
I think you can have your car in your name, you can not have your own insurance, you can not have your own policy, until you're 18.
No, a minor can not have a single policy, because a policy is a contract between two or more adults. Even if you could, it would cost more to have a policy with only "minimal state" than be added to their policy coverage. Policies which all drivers were men under 20 prices several times as well as policies that also have drivers over 35 years.
Do not get the minimum when you get your own insurance (18 years and not before), they are a false economy. 20/40/15 MD requires limits, and you could go through it in a few days with a serious accident. Go to the policy of parents to start - if they have realistic limits - and then, if / when you get your own coverage in the spring for a few dollars more and get protection.
At 16, it can be added to the policy of your parents. There is no other solution.
