Insurance in India is not an entirely new, it has a history deeply rooted. Now the insurance industry, India has a full circle with the nationalization and foreign banks.

In 1912, the Government of India passed the Indian Act, life insurance companies and was the first legal measures to regulate the trade in life insurance. In 1938, the first law was amended by the consolidation and the Insurance Act 1938 with detailed provisions for effective control of the insurance business.

The insurance sector in India has gone through several phases and changes sharply, especially in recent years when the government of India has opened the insurance sector to allow private insurance companies to solicit insurance . This is the main reason, the Indian insurance sector is regarded as a booming market and various global players have entered the lion's share. Currently, the largest insurance company in India is owned by the Government of India.
