MarketplaceInternational Vehicle Insurance Tragedy in Japan emphasizes the need for International Travel Insurance Craig Weisweaver of Mishawaka, Ind., is seriously ill in Japan. He contracted a virus while visiting family members there. Because he has no health or travel insurance and because he is too sick to take a commercial flight, Weisweaver is stranded in Japan. Japanese hospitals will not treat him because he has no insurance to cover emergency, hospital and doctor bills. The alternative would be to air medical evacuation to return to the United States, but that would cost the family $ 150,000, a sum they have not. Family members of U.S. Congress, and local residents working together to bring home Weisweaver, praying it crashes here so far. Unfortunately, this story is not uncommon. In a study by the Center for Injury Research, Medical College of Wisconsin, medical research has found that 2011 injury deaths of U.S. citizens overseas have been reported in 3 years, mostly in road accidents and drowning. Their conclusion was that injuries occur at a higher proportion of overseas United States. Ignorance of local customs and security procedures, coupled with the excitement and go-lucky holiday mentality happy to contribute negligence during a trip abroad. The son of Craig, Brian, in a newspaper interview said: "The obvious lesson to draw is that if you do not have health insurance and plan to travel, get travel insurance." We sympathize with the family situation Weisweaver. Insurance Travel International was the way forward because it would have paid for medical bills in the country he and his fresh-water outlet of the air, all for as little as 1 $ 50 - $ 6.00 per day, according to Craig's health and age at the time it took to travel insurance.
