What should I do to rent a car is the United Kingdom? I thought off renting a car in the United Kingdom by using my American Express card. I can therefore reject the Collision Damage Waiver option instead of renting, Amex already provides.
But is there anything else I need? like insurance!?! little confused on how it works in the United Kingdom, I've never had to rent a car before. CDW is the same as insurance ?!?!? Thank you.
I have a U.S. and UK driving licenses, car insurance, but only within the United States. Thank you.
I work for a car rental company and we rent a large number of United States who refuse CDW (basic insurance with excess) where they are covered by their credit card. You must verify that Amex does not cover CDW for rental cars in the United Kingdom and perhaps bring the documents to show. You will be asked to sign a statement saying that if the car should be damaged or stolen credit card would be the market value of the car.
CDW is usually included in most rates in the United Kingdom. The excess can be anything between £ 550 and £ 1,000 depending on the type of vehicle. SCDW can be purchased at time of rental, which provides the surplus to zero.
You will need your driver's license (permit U.S. is fine) and also a credit card that will be authorized at the time of rental and payment made when the vehicle is returned. The car is full of fuel and you can opt for a full refund or prepay for a tank and bring it back empty.
Of course, I can only comment on the company where I work and others may have different policies.
If you decline CDW, your best option is to pre-book your car from the U.S.. You will get a better price.
Why bother renting a car, use public transport, expensive and totally shit
Send Prince Philip this and wishes, Tony Blair, George W. sent you.
I rented a van in the UK last week,
The rental company has asked the United Kingdom driver's license photo ID and a paid invoice.
Two weeks before, when we were in Italy, my brother was refused a rental car, as he had only U.S. driver's license. We need photo ID (passport) and an EU drivers license.
You'll need insurance, but there is also a CDW (in addition they will try to sell you).
Probaby best to contact the rental company in advance to check what you need.
Cordially
