Expat Car Insurance

Me live in Spain and have a vehicle English that I am not using at the moment (I have access to another vehicle). My friends car broke down and asked if he could borrow mine for a while. he is an expatriate, but has lived in Spain for many years now and has a driver's license and Spanish residencia. Ive heard that if you have residencia Spanish you can not drive a vehicle registered British. Does anyone know if this is true. we found an insurance company who assure him on the vehicle, which leads me to believe that he is not!

So it may provide the vehicle in his name or do I need to provide and add him as a driver named?

Another problem we encountered while looking for insurance, is that because it's a 4x4 (small) some companies will not buy insurance on the vehicle because I'm under 30 (I am 28, my friend is 59).

Not sure about the first part of your Q, but .......

If the vehicle is registered in your name of the insurance must be in your name with your friend as a driver named, insurers may allow it to be listed as the main user, but the policy must always be at your name. You should be able to find an insurer that covers your vehicle insurance with perhaps a greater XS, but you do not use the vehicle it will not matter, the XS for your friend Wil be the norm as it is over 30. European rules are completely different from the rules of the United Kingdom relating to insurance. I would say that your friend is in his usual Spanish insurance office and tries to replace the car with its usual policy on the basis that his automobile off the road
