Founded by three brothers, Adriano, Marcello and Bruno Ducati in 1926, Ducati was originally established to create a variety of components for radios. Over the following years, Ducati grew in size and had constantly move and upgrade their premises and facilities.

It was not until 1944, when the bike "first" was built - the Cuccicolo, a small engine designed to be attached to a bicycle rickshaw. The 1980s saw the introduction of the 916 world-renowned, 996 and 999 motorcycles, while improvements in the 1990s built on them.

With a variety bikes currently in their line-up, Ducati still producing high quality bikes for both racing and road.

Provision of racing bikes and teams on and off since the early 1970s, Ducati has seen a selection of riders to take their bikes around the track. However, without a doubt the most famous and successful is Carl Fogarty. Riding for Ducati since the mid-1990s, Fogarty is the most successful World Superbike rider and is known for its aggressive competitiveness. Although retired since 2000 due to injury, Fogarty was always a keen interest in World Superbike and in 2002 he setup Foggy Petronas own team, in association Petronas riders who would race in World Superbike.

With popular racers Troy Corser and James Haydon on board, Foggy Petronas should have been a winning team. Even if they have reached regular top five positions, they never managed pole position and Petronas withdrew from the team in 2006. Failing to find sponsorship in 2007, the team was supposed to be back in 2008 but has never done and all the teams assets were put up for sale

A regular columnist in various magazines and correspondent, Fogarty is known for his outspoken views, often causing controversy, which Fogarty a figure in the racing world is really a love or hate one.

Not forgetting to respond to the general public, Ducati has always ensured that their bikes on the road are equally good - both looks and performance wise - that their racing bikes. Of course, the Ducati motorcycle insurance is not cheap, but it is not intended to be when you're driving a road version of the superbike world class.
