Driving Without Car Insurance Whats the consequence for driving without auto insurance? I recently bought a car for my son and hes been driving without car insurance. What will happen if he took the police department? Minimum is a ticket. Car may be impounded. In the case of an accident, you could be sued in bankruptcy since you bought the car for him. If he is too young to get the assuredness of his own, and is still living at home, put his car, and he, on your policy. He lost his license, probably at least until age 18 if under 18 at present. It will also get a heavy fine from the police. The car will be impounded liklely and once it is stopped because, after all, who can legally drive the car home when he is not insured? If your son is involved in an accident without insurance, police will be the least of his concerns (note that this is a rather extreme statement considering he looks fines, license suspensions and possible vehicle impounded). If it is at-fault in the accident, he will end up paying for damage to another person. If there are injuries involved, it might eventually pay off for the rest of his life. You bought your son a car, but did not buy insurance or make getting insurance? Yes, you might be a concerned parent, but you're also a very irresponsible one. It can ruin his life if he has an accident. At least he has a serious note, the loss of his license and the car will be impounded on site (provided it is shot). It's like playing Russian roulette, he can get away for a while but it is bound either to shoot or get into an accident ... anyway he is in a pickle. If you are a concerned parent, then you should not let your son drive the car at all. Keep the car in your name, and put it on your insurance, which will be less. As a parent, I would be more concerned about him having an accident than be arrested by the police. If he has an accident, his fault or not, you will be responsible and you will go bankrupt. Simply arrested by the police could end up costing you towing and impoundment fees. He lost his license for who knows how long, he can never get one! The police and the state does not only give you a slap on the wrist and say "buy low, do not do it again", it means .... company, as a parent property concerned must! Well, first of all, he can get a ticket and a fine fair amount of money. It might even have the car impounded if the cop suspects he stole the car for some strange reason. (Believe me, I've seen this happen. My friend has forgotten the proof of insurance ... just proof that he was the owner ... to his car and was towed.) There is much more to WO.
