Shopping for a beginner bike after a direct access course? I am 22 and planning underway for a DAS (Direct Access) courses motorcycle license.
I have a fully licensed drivers in the UK for cars. I've been driving since January 2005, in which I had 1 hump with very superficial damage ... and 1 accident with little damage to the engine (I had glandular fever and I would not have been driving). I am now much more careful about my conduct.
I am 6 foot and I am a strong guy because if I found the gym on and off since I was 17 if that makes a difference. I'm about 13 stone 5 pounds and I have no gut.
I want to know what riders experience recommends for me as a beginner bike for someone who would get their licenses through a system of direct access.
I have no motorcycle experience, so I want to know what I should be excluded. All the advice I received from the Internet is limited, only 125 are not available in the U.S., so I have not seen many discussions on sites claiming the positives and negatives between the two.
I'm worried if I buy a 250, it may be too powerful or difficult for an inexperienced pilot like me on Britain's roads and I know what I know how to drive a car ... no bikes. I do not want to accidentally go Gunning and scare myself a bike that could have promised so much enjoyment .... but I do not want a bike that I feel could be exchanged against a lawn mower and leaves me Underwhelmed.
so many questions:
125 or 250? What is the best for my situation. Is the 250 a bit too powerful or difficult to ride for me as a rider recently adopted, even though I took a DAS? Is 125 the best choice, or are they easily exceeded?
How much insurance will cost? What it varies considerably between 125 and 250 or are they both really considered appropriate for someone in my situation?
What models would you recommend? There is a good selection and I'm on a budget. Ideally, I want a bike that costs around £ 3,000 and £ 3,700
Do you have community forums that you recommend for research? Preferably UK based ones.
Is there a significant difference in engine wear between the 125 and 250cc engines? Should I treat the mileage on the bikes second hand between the 2 different sizes of engine?
How much should I expect to be paid for protection? I want a game that will keep me safe, not like I'm safe.
(Q) 125 or 250.
I say 250 4 stroke. You must remember your an adult male so that the bike must be able to carry you and your equipment with force. You also need to think past today. It must be practical as your experience increases. In a year or two, you must move up to a 600.
Understand that few used bikes used to be free repair. At least get a service, even if the seller says he is a yesterday.
(Q) insurance.
A good question, answers are just a guess, therefore no value. You need to research this your self. It said its warning that you consider the whole package rather than what is before your eyes. .
(Q) What is the model.
I am in Australia. So cannot choose a model based on the price. Personally, I recommend any of the established brands, including Jap bikes as they are very reliable.
Personally, I would not accept one of these new Asian brands. Not even for free. If I am going to mount one, they would have had to prove their car as reliable and secure before I trust them. Maybe in 20 years, but nothing today.
Maybe go to eBay and the local press specifically classified magazines covering the sales of used bikes.
(Q) engine wear.
I'd be more focused on maintaining the care and correct. Low mileage does not convert penalty without a bike maintenance free. A 125 will.
