Auto Insurance: Rogues brave the cold It seems that the thieves of the Greater Manchester are easy prey for the cars and more reports emerge every day.
Thieves target cars that have been left to "icing", while their owners are preparing for commuters in their homes. This means that cars are left unlocked with the engine running - which makes them a dream come true for a potential thief.
"It only takes a few seconds for a thief to steal a car when the keys were left in the ignition," said Chief Inspector Haydn Roberts of Manchester Police Traffic Network Section Great.
The 2004 statistics published by the Home Office revealed that in eight of all cases of stolen cars into question the use of the car. In addition, 314,000 of stolen cars, where nearly half occurred just outside the house owners.
Unfortunately, the figures of a survey conducted by AA were also higher than desired. With 14% of drivers think their car insurance would still be valid if their car was stolen with the keys in the ignition, however, many insurers class what "negligence" and therefore does not fulfill the request.
This translates into an increasing number of motorists being left to foot the bill for a new car, and at the worst time of year too.
During the ice time earlier this year, about 150 cars stolen in this way when, in Greater Manchester alone.
As new cars have been stolen over the last two days, with temperatures expected to fall more motorists, local police are urging them to take appropriate measures to secure their cars.
