Baron Insurance Why are we confused about the Father of the skyscraper? The Home Insurance Building was the first skyscraper to be built in 1884 by Willam Baron Jenney. So why do some historians say that Louis Sullivan and / or Leroy Buffington are the fathers of the skyscraper? I thought that King Solomon built the first skyscraper ... The Tower of Babel ... I did not know this debate was, as I've never studied it. But based on the information you gave, the debate is whether the honor of the father of the skyscraper is the guy who built the first skyscraper without actually calling it that (and without the to invent something new), or the guy who created the skyscraper "as a concept and social change (without building one of his own). It seems that there is some confusion about the historical facts, that the dissent of how they should be interpreted. Every historian has his own reasons for considering a particular man to be the father of the skyscraper. Read their stories to find out why. I do not think we are confused about it.
